Pashupatinath is the olddest n most famous temple in kathmandhu.Once upon a time lord shiva became tired of his old palace kailashnath at top of himalays. He went to searh for new palace where he would escape to.Then he find kathmandhu as a suitable place.Without telling anyone he ran away from his palace to live in kathmandhu valley. Before the other gods find him he turned himself as a deer. All gods asked for help with him but he didnot listened. When shiva didnot listened to their pleas, they planned to use force in last stage.God bishnu grabbed lord shiva(Deer) by his horns n scattered horns into pieces. God vishnu then establised a linga in the bank of bagmati river by the help of broken horns. As time passed temple was burried and forgotten. After a certain time a cow was noticed to sprinkled her milk in the burried temple. When the cow herders dug the spot where the cow sprinkled milk, they found the lost linga and again built the temple which is known as Pashupatinath Temple.
